Clearing the Existing Drainage Ditch of Invasives on a Wet Friday Morning.Clearing the Existing Drainage Ditch of Invasives on a Wet Friday Morning.

A group of five TRWA Volunteers (Kay Goodwin, Rodney Pearson, Mark Seder, Gina Barnett and Allison Pearson) spent the rainy morning of Friday, November 1, 2024 clearing and removing the invasives (Mimosa, Privet, Bush Honeysuckle and Wild Rose) that had taken over the drainage ditch.  This is the beginning of the next large project at the TRWA - Picnic Area and Rainwater Filtration Garden.  It was a massive effort but well worth 30 + hours that was volunteered.

The above master plan layout will be completed over the next year.   The picnic area will include an ADA compliant picnic table along with herb  and vegetable gardens as well as a Bear-proof trash receptacle.  The rainwater filtration garden will be used to funnel the rainwater that falls on this area thru a rain garden that will then overflow into the storm drain.  The Tribute to the Little River Railroad, which ran thru this area, will contain some history of the Little River Railroad as well as a play area with a surprise we are working on.

Below are pics from our first workday on this area.
