The Newly Planted Pollinator Garden at the TRWA!The Newly Planted Pollinator Garden at the TRWA!

A great group of volunteers mulched and planted the New TRWA Pollinator Garden this past Thursday and Friday. with over 200 native wildflowers.   The planting was the last part of a process that began with the TRWA Master Plan that moved the Pollinator Garden to the hillside beside the tunnel and created a Children's Discovery Garden where the old Pollinator Garden was as shown below.

Work on the hillside for the new Pollinator Garden started in the Spring with Allison Pearson providing several sprayings to kill  the grass and weeds that existed on hillside.  Mark Seder worked with Milly Rosenberg of Millers Cove Native Plants to select the plants that would be used for the planting.  Milly then prepared and grew the 200 Plants that were used.

This past Thursday the mulching of the hillside was started and the Plants were picked up from Milly.  On Friday the plants were laid out as to where they were to be planted, then planting, mulching and watering were completed.  Over 50 volunteer hours were donated to complete this two day event.

Below is a list of the plants installed for the Pollinator Garden.

The volunteers and the hours that they donated can't be thanked enough.  We would also like to thank those that provided the plants and mulch for this project.  Milly Rosenberg of Millers Cove Native Plants donated all the Butterfly and Milkweed while the rest of the cost of the plants were split between The Blount County Master Gardeners and Mountain Ridge Way Products.  The Tuckaleechee Garden Club provided the funds for the oak mulch.

Enjoy the pictures below of the transformation and activities that took place to finish this part of the TRWA Master Plan.
