Sensory Garden & Path at the Townsend River Walk & Arboretum
Opening August 28, 2026
What is a Sensory Garden?
A sensory garden is a wonderful way for children to explore their senses and learn about the environment around them. It is also a healthy place of discovery and gets children outdoors. Children with disabilities also greatly benefit from exposure to sensory gardens, as they provide a therapeutic and safe way for them to explore their senses. (PlanetNatural - https://www.planetnatural.com/sensory-gardens/)
Step into our Sensory Garden or enter thru the Portal, don't forget to take your shoes off. Our sensory garden features a path with different textures, a xylophone, tic-tac-toe, a bridge, a portal and plenty of flowering plants, herbs, interesting grasses and ferns and more. All for the visual, sound, touch and smell to stimulate children's senses and to inspire them to enjoy the wonders of nature.

This was our working plan as we developed the garden. It changed and was tweaked several times as we fulfilled the vision that it was on paper into reality.
Enjoy the following slide show of the garden as it progressed thru July and August of 2026.
